HP Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) is a comprehensive systems software and firmware solution delivered as a single ISO image. This solution uses HP Smart Update Manager (HP SUM) as the deployment tool and is tested on all HP ProLiant Gen 8, G7, and earlier servers, as supported by Insight Foundation suite for ProLiant version 8.70.

Reboot Requirement:
Reboot is not required after installation for updates to take effect and hardware stability to be maintained.

Installation:
Start replaces Autorun in online and offline modes.
Users familiar with using Autorun on the Smart Update Firmware Maintenance DVD will notice that it has been replaced with a new browser-based interface known as Start. Start will walk the user through language selection, End User License Agreement (EULA) viewing, and launching HP SUM. The supported browsers for running Start in online mode are:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0
  • Mozilla Firefox 3.0.10 or later
  • Mozilla Firefox 3.1
  • Mozilla Firefox 3.5
Installation instructions
There are two methods for using the Service Pack for ProLiant to update your ProLiant servers:
- Online mode - Runs on a Windows® or Linux hosted operating system
- Offline mode - Server is booted to the ISO
  • Automatic mode - Firmware components will be updated without interaction
  • Interactive mode - Follow the onscreen steps to update firmware components
To initiate deployment in Interactive mode:
  1. Locate Start.html which is found in the root of the ISO
  2. Open the html file in a supported browser
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen
Automatic mode will by default run firmware update without any user interaction after sitting 30 seconds at the menu screen when a SPP DVD or USB Key is inserted to the server.
Booting the SPP DVD from iLO virtual media is only supported in Automatic Firmware Update mode. Users attempting this in any other mode may experience hangs from connection timeouts, difficulties updating iLO firmware, and mouse syncing issues.
Note: If you install a software from the SPP and then install a Microsoft Windows® operating system Service Pack or other operating system updates, HP recommends reinstalling the software from the SPP.

Making a physical DVD from an ISO image file
Download the file to a temporary directory and extract the ISO image to that directory.
In order to create a DVD from this ISO image, you must use a software utility capable of writing an ISO file to a recordable media such as DVD-R.
Note: Simply copying the ISO file to a DVD-R will NOT result in a usable DVD. HP recommends you run MD5 Checksum on the Zip file and/or ISO image prior to burning the DVD. HP also recommends that you turn the verify feature 'ON'.

Copying the ISO Image file to the HP USB Key Utility For Windows
The HP USB Key Utility is a Windows application that will allow the user to copy the SPP DVD contents to a USB memory key. Supplemental updates for supported ProLiant servers and options without firmware or software smart components on the Service Pack for ProLiant DVD can be done by using Smart Update Manager, which is found on the Service Pack for ProLiant DVD.

  • Place the Service Pack for ProLiant DVD on a USB key using the USB Key Creator Utility.
  • Place the desired smart components to be updated in the directory, hpswpackages on the USB key.
  • Update the firmware and software in the usual manner.

The 2019.03.1 SPP replaces 2019.03.0 and contains updated System ROM firmware to address an issue where the system may experience a higher rate of Uncorrectable Memory errors or boot time Memory training issues with Intel Xeon Scalable Performance Bronze and Silver processors. This issue was first introduced with System ROM version 2.00. HPE recommends that any customer experiencing a memory issue immediately update to this version of the system ROM before replacing any components. This issue is not unique to HPE servers.

The 2019.03.1 SPP Production release contains components supporting the ProLiant, Synergy and Apollo Gen9 and Gen10 server platforms and options. For Synergy, please review the information at www.hpe.com/downloads/synergy.

Due to a recently discovered Software/Firmware issue with the HPE QLogic NX2 10/20GbE Multifunction Drivers for VMware vSphere 6.0/6.5, version 2017.07.07(bnx2.vmware60@2017.07.07), HPE has chosen to withdraw the affected VMWare drivers from all deliverables that include them.

The 2017.07.2 SPP release supports the ProLiant and Synergy Gen9 and Gen10 server platforms. It also provides support for the following operating systems:

HP Service Pack for ProLiant version 2012.02.0 contains one or more software components that were signed with a digital signature that was revoked on October 21, 2014. Refer to Customer Advisory c04395762 for more information about affected components.

Reboot Requirement:
Reboot is not required after installation for updates to take effect and hardware stability to be maintained.

Installation:
Start replaces Autorun in online and offline modes.
Users familiar with using Autorun on the Smart Update Firmware Maintenance DVD will notice that it has been replaced with a new browser-based interface known as Start. Start will walk the user through language selection, End User License Agreement (EULA) viewing, and launching HP SUM. The supported browsers for running Start in online mode are:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0
  • Mozilla Firefox 3.0.10 or later
  • Mozilla Firefox 3.1
  • Mozilla Firefox 3.5
Installation instructions
There are two methods for using the Service Pack for ProLiant to update your ProLiant servers:
- Online mode - Runs on a Windows® or Linux hosted operating system
- Offline mode - Server is booted to the ISO
  • Automatic mode - Firmware components will be updated without interaction
  • Interactive mode - Follow the onscreen steps to update firmware components
To initiate deployment in Interactive mode:
  1. Locate Start.html which is found in the root of the ISO
  2. Open the html file in a supported browser
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen
Automatic mode will by default run firmware update without any user interaction after sitting 30 seconds at the menu screen when a SPP DVD or USB Key is inserted to the server.
Booting the SPP DVD from iLO virtual media is only supported in Automatic Firmware Update mode. Users attempting this in any other mode may experience hangs from connection timeouts, difficulties updating iLO firmware, and mouse syncing issues.
Note: If you install a software from the SPP and then install a Microsoft Windows® operating system Service Pack or other operating system updates, HP recommends reinstalling the software from the SPP.

Making a physical DVD from an ISO image file
Download the file to a temporary directory and extract the ISO image to that directory.
In order to create a DVD from this ISO image, you must use a software utility capable of writing an ISO file to a recordable media such as DVD-R.
Note: Simply copying the ISO file to a DVD-R will NOT result in a usable DVD. HP recommends you run MD5 Checksum on the Zip file and/or ISO image prior to burning the DVD. HP also recommends that you turn the verify feature 'ON'.

The HP USB Key Utility is a Windows application that will allow the user to copy the SPP DVD contents to a USB memory key.
