Mahatma Gandhi University was established on 2 October 1983 in Kottayam district of Kerala, India. The seats available in Govt/ Aided/ Self-financing affiliated colleges and self-financing programs in Aided Colleges are mainly classified as Merit seats, community seats, and management seats. The seats to be filled under CAP 2017 include 100% seats in government colleges, 70% seats in aided colleges and 50% seats in unaided colleges. This includes the seats earmarked for SC/ ST candidates in Aided Colleges and 50% seats in Unaided programs conducted in Aided Colleges. There are as much as 55,000 seats for UG programs in the University’s affiliated institutions, of which 24,457 are offered by the Colleges in Ernakulam.
MGU introduced Centralised Allotment Process (CAP) in 2010 for PG programs, later the process was extended to UG admissions too. The marks/ grades secured by a candidate at the +2 level decide the eligibility for admission to UG programs through MGU CAP.
